Bespoke Sustainable Stainless Steel Sculptures

Designed and Built in the heart of Britain

Sculpture with creativity and flair from a young, British Designer

Oliver Wellings is a young British designer who developed a creative and imaginative flair through his design studies. A clear source of passion was the natural environment and a love for the natural world. Oliver is known for sustainable stainless steel sculptures.

By creating digital designs, Oliver combines unique design skills and his love of the natural world to create bespoke projects using Stainless Steel.

He currently designs a range of wildlife sculptures but has also created a selection of niche lifestyle products whilst still maintaining the same environmentally friendly ethos and sustainable practices.

This website demonstrates a selection of his evolving portfolio, influenced by his travels and commitment to sustainability in his art.

Sculpture designed with environmental awareness

It is the responsibility of every person to make choices that take good care of our planet. Creating sustainable sculptures begins from the design phase where every consideration to ensure a low impact is made on the artwork’s global green footprint from concept to completion

During the making of the sculptures, no extra tooling or machinery is used outside of the general running of the workshop to ensure a minimum energy consumption. All of the sculptures are hand crafted and made using one welding machine to keep the impact as small as possible.

Our growing awareness of how we can tackle the problem of climate change is at the forefront of the design considerations. Each piece of artwork is a statement of the limitless potential of innovation through sustainable change, growth and industry across our Earth.

The natural world is the muse, letting the beauty of the world become illustrated through the way the materials are presented in artistic, sculpted form.

Throughout the years of the pandemic, Oliver was inspired to use his artistic innovation to find a way to express his skills in sculpture, while responding to the need of the automotive industry to find sustainable solutions to industry practices, including waste products. Birchills Sculptures & Metal Restorations (BS&R) was created to further Birchills Automotive’s commitment to a more sustainable automotive industry. By repurposing unused metal from its manufacturing process, the firm makes and sells handcrafted designs using recycled 304 aircraft grade stainless steel which otherwise would have gone to waste.

From garden products including planters, pots and furniture to bespoke sculptures and decorative items for the home, all items are weather-proof and created by the business’ in-house custom design team and Oliver Wellings has been driving the design and creation of sustainable art for this innovative solution ever since.

The ethos behind the artwork is a profound commitment to finding sustainable solutions and a core belief that recycling really does make a difference.

Oliver’s vision for his sustainable sculptures is driven to fulfill the full life and potential of the materials through innovation and sustainable design.

Sustainable Art through Innovative Industry Solutions

Shadow

The level of detail included within this sculpture combines to provide a truly superb and fine example of one of the world’s most majestic land predators. I would not hesitate to work with Oliver again, the professionalism, talent and skill are unsurpassed and the quality of craftsmanship is second to none.”

Sustainable Sculptures combining Purpose and Passion

All artists work within their context of life and the way in which we interact with the balance of beautiful and challenging aspects of the world in which we live.

An artist’s response to this comes through their own preference for art media and the way they can express this response. For sculptors, this can often come through in a big way and Oliver’s craftsmanship is a clear example of this.

Oliver Wellings is an artist with a dedication to sustainability, inspired by how materials can find a second purpose in their life cycle.

Coming from an established family business in the automotive industry, Oliver’s family has been trading in Walsall for 130 years. Birchills Automotive manufactures exhaust systems for cars and motorcycles. Using state of the art computer aided design processes for creating engineering designs, Birchills Automotive use 3D printing to produce working models to support their clients with the design process.
